In the year 2005 the Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic completed first ten years of its existence. Within those ten years EACR developed its organizational structure and considerably increased number of its members – now it has 112 members and 18 foreign members – eminent personalities from the sphere of science and research, outstanding university teachers, managers and members of the top management of industrial enterprises and representatives of the entrepreneurial sphere.
In the course of those 10 years EACR was engaged in the whole scope of activities. Very thorough overview of these activities was published in the EACR Brochure 2005, which was issued on the occasion of the 10 Anniversary of EACR.
One of the most significant spheres of activities EACR has been paying particular attention within this whole 10 years period is the Research and Development - R&D:
EACR is represented in the top management of the Research and Development Council of the Czech Government by 4 EACR members. Further 10 members of the Academy were included into the four Branch committees of the Council. In this way the Academy participates on the preparation of the most important documents in the sphere of the R&D.
EACR is directly involved in the preparation of studies and analysis for the R&D Council and Ministry of Education CR. EACR thus prepared concepts for the National Program for Research and Development and Applied Research Agency for administration of recourses for the public support of the applied research.
Trough its members EACR took part in the Foresight exercise which was to define strategic (long term) R&D priorities. Of the 7 priorities approved by the Government, 4 belong to the field of Engineering. EACR took also part in the defining criteria for the Evaluation of the outcomes of publicly supported research and took also part in the Analyses of the performance of the Research and Development in the Czech Republic.
EACR is running the Czech Knowledge Transfer Office providing services in the implementation of the outcomes of Scientific and Applied Research.
To underline the importance of the sphere o R&D EACR Board on its Meeting in June 2005 decided to establish a section for Scientific Policy and Management. This section is to take part in Foresight studies, formulating R&D and innovation policies.
