International workshop „The Role of Engineering Education in the Knowledge Society“
Prague 14-15 October 2008
MOTTO: Further development of the Knowledge Society in the 21 Century requires well prepared and highly qualified technical and natural sciences university graduates.
Workshop organized by the Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic is to address number of topics concerning current trends in engineering education and the educational process itself including innovative approaches and interconnection of the technical universities with industry and industrial experts. The Workshop is also to discuss ways how to influence views of the public and politicians on the technical education and improve cooperation of technical universities with primary and secondary schools (including teachers and pupils).
The Workshop is a continuation of activities of the Euro-CASE platform in the field of Engineering Education and follows after the National Workshop of the Rectors of the Czech Universities on Engineering Education organized by the Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic in June 2008 and Discussion Forum on the same subject at the CAETS Council Meeting at Delft. Conclusion from both discussions will be presented here. Proceedings of the workshop will be published in the book form. It is expected that the Workshop will seek solution for problems of the engineering education, which could be applied both on national and international level.
Engineering Academy CR selected number of topics of the broad theme of engineering education to be preferentially discussed on the workshop:
  • Knowledge society and current trends in the engineering education.
  • Bc. degrees in the engineering education.
  • Proportions of individual constituents (hard sciences, engineering sciences, transferable skills) in the engineering education.
  • Liaisons between practice and engineering education.
  • Financing of Engineering study programs (Public and private sources, scholarships).
  • Support of interest among high school students to study Engineering.
  • Workshop is organized with the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic and in the Czech Republic the outcomes and conclusions of the workshop are intended to contribute to the reform of the tertiary education and the reform of the research, development and the innovations, which are just under preparation.
