About the EACR Awards

The Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic established, on the basis of a resolution accepted by the Plenary Meeting of the EACR on December 11, 1996, the Award of the Engineering Academy for outstanding completed engineering projects and significant achievements of engineering R&D performed in the Czech Republic. The Award of the Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic is presented annually to Czech and Foreign individuals and teams for results of their creative work put into practice or published for the first time within the last five years.
The Award is presented in two categories:
  • Outstanding implemented engineering projects,
  • Outstanding contributions to engineering R&D published in peer-reviewed journals.
The Award is accompanied by a certificate and a financial or other type of grant.
In 1997 and 1998 the Award was presented only in the first category since the EACR wished to reward in this way specific contributions to industrial and economic development of the Czech Republic. Since 1999 the Award is presented in both categories.
The Award was presented for the first time in 1997. It was presented to a team from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University Liberec led by Doc. Ing. Stanislav Beroun, CSc. for the project: Low-emission Driving Unit for Buses Used in Public Municipal Transport“. The Award acknowledged the high sophistication of the engineering design of the driving unit characterized by a wide range of applicability in buses both new and in service in municipal transportation. The use of the unit resulted in improved air quality. At the time the Award was presented the unit was already mounted in 60 city buses in the towns of Litvínov and Most.
The presentation ceremony of the Award traditionally takes place at the Ceremonial Hall of the Bethlehem Chapel in the presence of members of the Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic, officials of the Czech Technical University in Prague and other Czech technical universities, leading personalities from the spheres of Czech science and culture, representatives of the government and the Hlávka Foundation, foreign guests and representatives of sponsors.
